Video Conferencing
Video conferencing is undergoing a major transition from Standard Definition to High Definition (HD) format, using 720p resolutions and moving to 1080p. Greater functionality is offered in new equipment such as integrated multipoint bridging. At the same time the new equipment supports numerous video and audio coding standards, encryption of streams, and other differentiating features.
Current solutions use a complicated integration of multiple DSP processors, one or more FPGAs, and network-enabled processors to satisfy video processing, load balancing, and networking requirements.
Tilera® TILE Processors™ combine powerful video and audio signal processing computing together with the full networking capability expected from a general-purpose embedded processor. A single TILE64™ processor can deliver more than 10 channels of HD H.264 video encoding. Contrast the Tilera solution with current technology — a single TILE64 device replaces multiple DSPs / FPGAs as well as the control CPU found in today’s mid-to-high-end videoconference systems. In addition, the ANSI C/C++ based programming environment allows re-use of existing code and consolidates the disparate programming methodologies required with earlier designs.
Videoconference Endpoints
In mid-range to high-end videoconference and telepresence endpoints, the TILE64 processor provides the most integrated solution.

A Videoconference Endpoint Solution
Feature Highlights
- Single processor solution for video encode/decode, audio processing, and the control plane simplifies programming and system design.
- Solution lowers BoM costs with integrated I/O and memory controllers.
- Industry-standard C/C++ programming environment allows re-use of legacy code.
- Flexible platform supporting Linux and “Bare Metal” programming delivers peak performance as well as a standard environment for control software.
Multipoint Conference Units (MCUs)
For the new generation of powerful Multipoint Conference Units and IP media gateway platforms, the TILE Processor™ is unexcelled in delivering the maximum number of video and audio transcoding channels on a single device. Its low power and high performance maximize the computational density of the solution.
