Tilera Selected as Finalist in Three Categories in EE Times 2008 ACE Awards
Tilera Finalist in Innovator of the Year, Start-up of the Year and Product of the Year
SAN JOSE, Calif., Feb. 20, 2008 - Tilera Corporation, a fabless semiconductor company developing the breakthrough Tile Architecture™ processor family, has been selected as a finalist in three categories in the EE Times fourth Annual Creativity in Electronics Awards (ACE) competition.
Tilera is a finalist in the categories of Innovator of the Year, Most Promising New Technology of the Year and Start-up of the Year. Winners of the ACE competition, which recognizes the electronics engineering industry’s most innovative companies and breakthrough technologies, will be announced at an awards ceremony on April 15 in San Jose at the Fairmont Hotel.
Of the 45 companies named as finalists, only four others, IBM, Texas Instruments, Research in Motion and Analog Devices were named as finalists in three categories and Tilera was the only start-up named. Finalists are judged by a panel of industry experts from academia, industry and Wall Street.
Tilera’s founder and CTO Anant Agarwal was nominated in the Innovator of the Year category for his pioneering work on tile-based multicore architecture over the past two decades. Innovator of the Year award goes to an individual who has brought leadership, creativity and out-of-the-box thinking to technology, a product or business.
Tilera’s first product, the TILE64™, was nominated in the Most Promising New Technology category. That award goes to a compelling electronic component or enabling technology, such as software, that is outstanding in its technical design, potential for market impact and demonstrates leadership in its area. The TILE64 is the world’s highest performance embedded processor offering 10x the performance of a dual-core Intel Xeon and 30x the performance per watt. Tilera’s technology addresses three problems that are hindering multicore performance – scalability, power efficiency and programmability.
Tilera itself was nominated in the Most Promising Start-up of the Year category. The Start-up of the Year award goes to a venture capital (or pre-IPO financed) start-up (under three years in business) electronics manufacturing (device or system) company that demonstrates excellence in business development and/or technology development processes with the potential to become a technical or market leader in the global electronics industry.
Tilera has been recognized by several organizations in recent months. In November Tilera was honored as the runner up at the first annual Emerging Tech awards, given by the Silicon Valley/San Jose Business Journal. In December Tilera was nominated for the 2007 Fabless Semiconductor Alliance (FSA) "Fabless Start-Up to Watch" award. In February Tilera was named one of three finalists in EDN's 18th Annual Innovation Awards in the category of "Multicore Microprocessors."
The ACE Awards are part of the ESC Silicon Valley, the largest electronic system design event in North America where the global design engineering community gathers to learn, collaborate and celebrate innovations.
