GSA Names Tilera Semiconductor “Start-Up to Watch”

Global Semiconductor Alliance singles out Tilera for recognition

SAN JOSE, Calif., Dec. 22, 2008 - Tilera® Corporation, developer of the breakthrough TILE™ family of high-performance processors for the embedded market, today announced that the Global Semiconductor Alliance (GSA), named the company as the Start-Up to Watch. GSA recognized Tilera for its breakthrough multicore technology, customers’ traction, execution, and revenue outlook. Tilera works with its foundry, Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company, Inc. (TSMC), to bring to market the highest performance commercial multicore processors with up to 64 complete CPUs on a single chip. Tilera’s processors utilize TSMC’s production proven 90nm process for first silicon success.

Tilera targets networking, multimedia, and wireless infrastructure equipment markets. The Tile processors replace other processors, FPGAs, DSPs, and ASICs, providing customers the performance they need and the power budget they want in a standard Linux and C/C++ programming environment. After one year of product availability, due to first silicon success, Tilera has engaged more than 45 customers and has over 15 design wins; unheard of for a startup company in these markets.

“Our products are revolutionizing the multicore industry. Our customers are reducing their bill-of-materials cost by up to 50% and slashing their development times. TSMC has played a fundamental role in our success,” said Troy Bailey, V.P. of Marketing, Tilera Corporation. “TSMC’s, leading edge technology, and service have enabled us to focus on what we do best -- provide the best multicore processor in the market.”

The Tilera architecture is the only commercial architecture that is scalable to hundreds of cores, providing the industry with continuous performance scalability for years to come. With TSMC’s latest process technology and Tilera’s strong roadmap of high performance, low power, and integrated processors, Tilera will continue to raise the bar of multicore processors and provide more value for the embedded market.

“Tilera is a great example of innovation in the semiconductor market place. Its technology and business model have made it worthy of this outstanding recognition especially in today’s tough market conditions,” explained Brad Paulsen, vice president, Business Management, TSMC.
